{"id":518,"date":"2023-08-27T20:31:13","date_gmt":"2023-08-27T15:31:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ccsd.uasd.edu\/?page_id=518"},"modified":"2024-11-19T12:21:56","modified_gmt":"2024-11-19T07:21:56","slug":"textile-and-apparel-designing","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ccsd.uasd.edu\/index.php\/textile-and-apparel-designing\/","title":{"rendered":"Textile and Apparel Designing"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>Brief History<\/strong><br>The Department of Textile and Apparel Designing is one of the five disciplines of<br>Community Science (formerly known as College of Rural Home-Science) which came into existence<br>in the year 1974-75, when Dharwad was a sub campus of University of Agricultural Sciences, Hebbal,<br>Bangalore and later under the aegis of University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad in 1986. At the<br>beginning, the department\u2019s nomenclature was \u2018Clothing and Textiles (CT)\u2019. Later in the year 1995<br>the nomenclature was changed to Textiles and Clothing (TCL) and further to Textile and Apparel<br>Designing in the year 2006. The MSc. and Ph.D. degree programme in Textile and Clothing was<br>initiated in the year 1991-92 and 2000-01 respectively.<br><strong>Growth of the Department<\/strong><br>The Master\u2019s Programme in the Department was initiated in the academic year 1991 and<br>Doctoral programme in the year 2000. Till today department has produced 70 MHSc and 11 Ph.D<br>students. The students are trained and specialized in the areas of Textile and Apparel designing,<br>Textile chemistry, Technical textiles, Textile and Apparel quality analysis and Apparel Designing.<br>With the financial assistance of ICAR, FIST, ASIDE, DST\/DBT, the department is well equipped<br>with Textile testing equipments, Industrial sewing machines, Digital printing and Embroidery<br>machines, Handloom (one loom) and power looms (four looms) with Dobby and Jacquard<br>attachments, Computers and Textile &amp; Apparel Designing software\u2019s which supports UG\/PG teaching<br>and Research work. The intake capacity for Master\u2019s Programme is 8-10 students and for Doctoral<br>programme are 3-5 students per year.<br><strong>Academic Programmes at a Glance<\/strong><br>The department offers Master\u2019s and Doctoral degree programmes in Textile and Apparel<br>Designing. The students in the department are trained and specialized in the areas of Textile and<br>Apparel Designing, Textile chemistry, Textile and Apparel quality analysis, Technical textiles etc.<br>The post graduate course work of the department is categorized into core courses which must be taken<br>by all the students of the department admitted to the MSc\/Ph.D. degree programme. Additional<br>required courses relevant to the field of the specialization within the department and supporting \/<br>minor courses from other related departments may be opted by the students depending upon the<br>research problem.
